Mobile phone OLED screen market report

In the past few years, the dispute between LCD screens and OLED screens has almost never stopped, whether it is a mobile phone screen or a PC screen.

The LCD party has been chanting “LCD will never be a slave”, but it is a pity that OLED screens are gradually becoming smart.

The mainstream screen materials of mobile phones, especially in the high-end flagship phones of Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi and other brands, OLED screens have almost become standard.

In this screen revolution, the biggest beneficiaries are naturally screen suppliers. Samsung, the leader in the field of international display panels, also maintains its own advantages in the mobile phone OLED screen market, and this advantage is unstoppable.

Recently, the market research company Stone Partners released a report on global smartphone OLED panel shipments in 2019.

We just estimate that Samsung’s greatness will be difficult for all major panel manufacturers to resist. Specifically, Samsung Display achieved 88.1% of smartphone OLED panel shipments, ranking first.

However, this figure rose to 90.2% in the first quarter of 2020 (Samsung achieved 61.6 million smartphone OLED shipments in the quarter). In other words, Samsung’s share of the OLED panel market exceeds 90%.

In fact, it is not surprising that Samsung can achieve such results. After all, Samsung’s smartphone shipments are the largest in the world, and this alone accounts for a large part.

In addition, Huawei, ranked second in global smartphone shipments, ranked third in Apple, ranked fourth in Xiaomi, ranked fifth in OPPO, and ranked sixth in vivo, are also dominated by Samsung OLED panels on their flagship phones.

Especially Apple. From iPhone X to iPhone XS to iPhone 11 series, almost all adopt Samsung OLED panels.

After talking about Samsung, let’s talk about the following rankings. The second to fifth places are all domestic screen manufacturers, but the ranking of the manufacturers is still very surprising.

After all, BOE has almost become a domestic screen manufacturer in recent years. Synonymous, but its shipments do not seem to be as good as we thought. Well, not much nonsense, let’s look at them one by one according to the ranking.

  • 2th place EDO

The market share in the fourth quarter at the end of 2019 was 5.7%, and in the first quarter of 2020 it was 4.9%.

Shanghai Hehui Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. was established in October 2012. It is a high-tech enterprise focusing on the production of small and medium-sized AMOLED displays and the research and development of next-generation display technologies.

 EDO
  • 3th place Visionox

The shipment share in the fourth quarter of 2019 was 5.6%, which was only 0.1 percentage point behind Hehui Optoelectronics.

The shipment share in the first quarter of 2020 was 4.9%, still ranking third in the world and second in domestic products.

Visionox is the first OLED product supplier in mainland China. It is based on the Organic Light Emitting Display technology of Tsinghua University.

Integrate independent research and development, mass production and market sales of OLED. The first domestic product was built in 2002. The OLED pilot production line completed the integration of OLED production technology in 2003, realizing small batch production and sales of OLED screens and modules.

Visionox

Regarding Visionox screens, products that everyone is more familiar with include Mi CC9 Pro and Mi MIX Alpha 5G concept phones.

Although Xiaomi Mi 10 does not use Visionox OLED screens, Visionox stated that “Xiaomi is an important partner of the company. The company has entered the supply chain. In addition to product supply, it is also cooperating in new technologies and new products. The company continues to innovate. . Maintain good cooperation with terminal manufacturers. With the increase of production line capacity, we are actively introducing more brand customers.

Visionox
  • 4th place Tianma

Shipments in the fourth quarter of 2019 accounted for 0.6%, and shipments in the first quarter of 2020 accounted for 0.4%.

Tianma Microelectronics is a high-tech enterprise specializing in the production and operation of liquid crystal displays (LCD) and liquid crystal display modules (LCM).

After more than 30 years of development, the technical level, product quality, product grade, and market share rank among the top in the domestic industry. Has become a leader in the field of small and medium-sized displays, with 3 domestic most advanced LCD production lines.

Tianma
  • 5th place BOE

In the fourth quarter of 2019 and the first quarter of 2020, BOE’s mobile phone OLED panel shipment share was 0.1%.

To be honest, this is quite surprising. You know, in mid-March, there was news that BOE is working hard to join the ranks of Apple suppliers, and they hope to supply OLED screens for the iPhone 12.

I don’t know what Apple would think of seeing this market share report?

BOE

In fact, BOE has been regarded as the light of domestic screens in the past few years, and according to BOE’s 2019 year-end report, BOE’s 2019 flexible AMOLED smartphone panel shipments ranked second in the world.

It is really embarrassing to see this data from Stone Partners now. Of course, we don’t know which party’s data is more reliable. So what do you think of this report, please leave a message in the comment area to discuss, thank you!
